Sawa-I-Lau Caves, Yasawa Islands

4.2
#10 of 19 in Nature in Fiji
Also known as the heart of the Yasawas, Sawa-I-Lau Caves feature limestone formations carved out by the ocean. Legends say the caves once served as home to a chief and his bride after her family threatened to marry her off to another. They survived at the site until it was safe to escape to another island. Today you can venture into the caves with a local guide, where light from a hole in the ceiling illuminates the chamber. Adventurous visitors can enter a second cavern through an underwater tunnel. Make Sawa-I-Lau Caves a centerpiece of your Yasawa Islands vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Yasawa Islands online itinerary builder.
