East Side Gallery, Berlin

4.3
To see some truly one-of-a-kind art, take a stroll along East Side Gallery. This 1.3 km (0.8 mi) long stretch of the Berlin Wall is near the center of the city. One of the largest remaining portions of the former border between East and West Germany, this now serves as an international memorial of freedom. You'll see that the remains of the wall are painted with provocative and thought-provoking murals, political and otherwise. This open-air art gallery is a work in progress, so you'll find that creative local artists constantly add new images. Stop by to have your picture taken in front of a living piece of history. • Artists from all over the world have shown their view of life on this more than 1 km long original wall. Very nice and impressive to see. But yes, press pressure. To take a picture without pozing or selfie-making people is very tricky. The east side is the art side, the water side is graffiti (which you can see throughout the city, really everywhere)

  • Some great art and although it is mostly destroyed just stand back and imagine how this wall divided families in such a great city. Very poignant  more »

  • Walked the entirety of the wall to see all of the different pieces of artwork and it was great. Feels like there is something for everyone to find appealing and better yet it's completely free to see it all. Some of the more famous pieces of art tend to be quite busy but it is definitely worth a visit.
  • Beautiful art on one of the most historic artifacts of human history, the Berlin Wall. This is definitely worth a visit when you come to Berlin. The art is inventive, creative, powerful, and fun. You'll probably also recognize some very famous pieces as you still along the length of the wall. The wall is easily accessible by tram, bike, scooter, or even a long, delightful walk from the center of Berlin.
