Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Gibraltar

3.5
Dominating the adjacent square with its Moorish revival horseshoe arches, Cathedral of the Holy Trinity dates back to British rule in Gibraltar. Governor John Pitt established a church here in the mid-19th century to serve the Anglican community. Though that church survived World War II unscathed, it suffered extensive damage upon the 1951 explosion of the naval vessel RFA Bedenham. Renovations brought a new stained glass window on the east wall, made entirely from the fragments left after the attack. • Always visit the cathedral when in Gibraltar, a lovely peaceful and tranquil spot, perfect for a few minutes of quiet contemplation  more »
  • This is a mosque converted to a church. The basic architecture is of Moorish style. If you have time have a look.  more »

  • Peaceful historical church. Such a pity the approach to Gibraltar from La Linea has been marred by ugly multi storey flat developments. Not the Gibraltar I remember from the fifties and seventies. The Gibraltarians are lovely and we took lunch in a welcoming Italian restaurant.
  • Nice, small cathedral, the quiet anglican music inside very good idea
