Gibraltar Botanic Gardens (The Alameda), Gibraltar

#4 of 10 in Parks in Gibraltar
Created as a recreational area for off-duty British soldiers, Gibraltar Botanic Gardens (The Alameda) welcomes tourists and locals wishing to escape the heat or simply take a leisurely stroll. British Governor George Don commissioned a walking path around the main square in 1815, which was later expanded into a network of paths and terraced beds. In the first half of the 1990s, the neglected gardens underwent renovation, at which point a zoo was added to the site. Apart from the four howitzer cannons guarding the bronze bust of General Eliot, the gardens boast an open-air theater that can also serve as a wedding venue. • Beautiful place to visit, always kept nice, entrance is just at the rear of the cable car car park marked with big wrought iron gates, zoo in the middle is lovely and only £5 each, again nicely kept.....  more »
  • It's a free to visit Garden with lots of plants, its feels neglected and dated as well not worth the name of Botanical garden.  more »

  • Very nice garden area to spend some time while waiting for the cable car or taxi service. No cost, restrooms right inside the gate, and it is attached to an animal park/small zoo. The flowers are in bloom and makes for a very enjoyable walk.
  • Lots of interesting plants, mostly greenery, not many flowers this time of year. All free so can't really criticize but OK to spend a little time.
