Completed in 645 CE, Senso-ji Temple holds the status of being the oldest temple in Tokyo. The temple grounds contain an independent Buddhist temple and a Shinto shrine. Enter through the imposing Thunder Gate and walk the shopping street, lined with about 90 food and souvenir shops and dating back to the early 18th century, up to the main hall. The temple complex, including the main hall, contains buildings both historic and reconstructed since World War II. Don’t miss the five-story pagoda and the garden and pond surrounding the "Demboin" (high priest’s residence). Senso-ji Temple reviews
If you have a short time in Tokyo, this temple is must visit. It is beautiful at night with lights up too. I recommend visiting during the day because the shops around here are so unique. more »
When we talk about the capital city of Japan, the first things coming up to our minds are skyscrapers, juvenile trends, technology and modernity, and we forget the “old soul” of this crazy... more »
One the the most beautiful temple I've seen....there are so many art works and sculpture which represents Japanese culture.. Day/night you can see it in different way. The beauty of the temple is unquestionably amazing. Its a nice place to spend the weekend alone or with your family. It is a famous tourist spot in the heart of the city. There are so many street foods as well souvenir shops.
One of the most incredible places I have ever known. An immense temple, full of fabulous pagodas, statues, etc. The entrance is monumental. A very nice fair, where you can find thousands of souvenirs, in addition to good food. Every corner, every temple is a charm. Washing your hands in one of the fountains, following the ritual that is informed prepares us for a fantastic experience. Full of people, it is, at the same time, super organized and clean. A place that you must spend hours to get to know and take incredible photos.
