  • I came across this beautiful and romantic shrine when I was hiking down from Mt Misen. Its also called "the lovers sanctuary" - no wonder, the atmosphere here and around is very romantic. Alas Im too old for romances and love. This flame is not burning inside of me.
  • This temple may be small in size but it's great in importance. The fire that Kobo Daishi has ignited during his 100-day "Gumonji" training has been burning here since 806, hence the interior is blackened. Holy water brought to the boil by this fire, which has been burning for 1213 years, would cure all diseases. It is also the fire that ignited the Peace Flame in Hiroshima.
