Meet some of Nairobi's most beloved residents at Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a rescue and rehabilitation center for orphaned rhinos and elephants. Established in 1977 in honor of naturalist David Sheldrick, the nonprofit organization lies within the city's national park. Get up close to adolescent and baby elephants during bath time, and watch majestic rhinos playfully romping through their natural habitat. With the animals' welfare at its heart, the center only allows public viewing for a limited morning period, so check the website for visitor times. Discover how to plan a Nairobi trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.

  • Must-see in Nairobi! Although you will only have an hour watching the elephants, it is so worth it to see them gleefully charging toward the keepers with the most ridiculously oversized baby bottles.....  more

  • Truly an experience not to miss. The baby elephants are adorable, and the work that Sheldrick does extends far beyond so you get a chance to hear about all their great work and support them. And, if you are lucky, a little elephant will come close enough to touch! Wonderful.
  • Great experience! As the Staff feed the elephants one of them tell you each orphans name and the circumstances that requires them to be rescued. Arrive on time, just before 11am, you only get 1 hour!! At the end everyone in my group adopted an elephant for 1 year, US$50. Each one cost about US$900 a month to take care of...they need our support. Again, wonderful experience for the whole Family. I can't wait to visit again sometime soon.
