Discover the historical heart of the city at Medina of Fez, the oldest neighborhood in Fez, protected as a World Heritage Site. Founded as the capital of the kingdom by the Idrisid dynasty in the 8th century CE, the walled part of town includes a wealth of historical monuments and buildings flanking narrow, winding, bustling streets. Head to area's souks to haggle for traditional clothing, spices, and ornaments, or take in scenes of everyday life from the comfort of a local cafe. People are constantly begging and a "no, thank you" is not understood by many. (Unlike other Moroccan cities) In addition, one has to be very careful about the young men who want to "show you the way". They take a shave where they can. Claim, for example, that the paths are blocked and lead you around forever in a circle to demand money in the end. (Sometimes they even get really aggressive and cheeky, unfortunately there are a lot of them lounging around in larger groups). At night in the dark, I wouldn't wander through the alleys. The police are almost not seen at all, would have to show more and more presence there. In general, there is not much to see. As a non-Muslim, you have no access to some sights. You can look at the tanneries. But it's not nice. You just look at people doing a horrible, smelly and health-threatening job and still photograph them. Afterwards, of course, you should buy leather goods. I can recommend a visit at most as a day trip. The other cities of Morocco are much more beautiful and the people really warm. I wouldn't go to Fes again.

Unfortunately the touts and fake guides are too numerous and too insistent, which greatly spoils the experience.
