Archaeological Site of Volubilis, Meknes-Tafilalet Region

Discover the mix of Berber and Roman history and architecture at Archaeological Site of Volubilis, a partially excavated ancient city, now a World Heritage Site. After coming under Roman rule in the 1st century CE, the town quickly grew into a large colonial Roman city on the edge of the empire. The triumphal arch and basilica stand as the most impressive structures of the archaeological site: note their distinctly Roman style reinterpreted into a North African context, making use of local materials and several regional motifs. • A UNESCO-listed site but not maintained. The entrance is 70 dirham for tourists and 10 dirham for Moroccans. A disgrace! for example, the largest museum and site in Rabat, which pays for more than 10 dirhams. Oh yes you also have to leave a tip to the park man.

  • Recommended visit, fairly well preserved ruins. The Arc de Triomphe and the mosaics would be highlighted.
