Cathedrale Saint-Pierre, Rabat

3.4
#4 of 9 in Historic Sites in Rabat
Protruding from the city's skyline, Cathedrale Saint-Pierre captures the eyes of passers-by with its imposing white towers and art deco exterior. A French architect designed the cathedral, which today serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Rabat, in early 1920s. The interior features a harmonious mixture of Roman Catholic church furnishings, stained-glass windows, religious statues, and traditional Moroccan ornamentation. Mass is held regularly every other day, and if you are lucky, you might catch a performance of an African choir. • Bianchissima, like many Art Deco Catholic churches, is impressive in its outward but understated appearance in the interior. It's worth a non-fleeting visit.

  • Do we go to a church for its architecture, or because it is a church? I say "yes" to both proposals. It is a pity - but it is like that - that the Mass is said at the top of the church, leaving the nave alone and empty. But so it is; it is already beautiful that Mass is said there every day, and several times on Sundays. Praise God the Very High
