  • Each trip we've made to this beautiful island which is Puerto Rico, have never stopped going to that city so similar to our Cienfuegos which is Ponce, where we walk: the Museum of firefighters, the Central Park which stands opposite a beautiful Fountain our cathedral Lady of Guadalupe, the Mirador de la Cruz from where the view overlooks citywide, the Park of the iguanas, the majestic ceiba, its nearby beach with the wonderful terrace of the Ponce Hilton Hotel and the modern art museum. The temporary closure by the Ponce Museum of art reform allowed a selection of works from its collection to scour some of the best museums in the world, offering to the public of different countries the opportunity to meet a diverse and representative collection of the history and art generated in Africa, America and Europe, the three cultures that have given way to Puerto Rico. The Prado Museum was one of those chosen and, in 2009, hosted the exhibition sleeping. Victorian painting of the Ponce Museum of art, once suitable to receive works from English school, one of the least represented in the funds of the meadow and Spanish collections and that, instead, the Puerto Rican Museum possesses extraordinary pieces. The quality and presence of European painting among the works of the Museo de Arte de Ponce - that it has become the Centre of reference on European culture for America and the Caribbean - favors in a special way the relationship and dialogue with funds from the main art gallery is Panola which, in this sense, brings one of the most outstanding collections of the world. And it is in this context of reciprocal knowledge, diffusion and artistic relationship arises where the opportunity to respond to the first meeting between the two institutions, organizing an exhibition on the Prado Museum at the Museum of art of Ponce in 2012. El Greco, Velázquez, Zurbarán, Rubens, Van Dyck and Goya are some of the great masters whose works could admire the Puerto Rican public.

  • The museum is well laid out. It is small, but it has different sections. It has a nice ambience, well lit and cool ac. There isn't much diversity in terms of painting style, periods or themes.
  • Great collection of art. Great atmosphere. One of my favorite places in Puerto Rico
  • Nice permanent and visiting collections make this a great destination for art lovers. My 8 yr old and I enjoyed wandering and discussing the art styles thru the ages. The Granada garden is a nice outdoors space. We spent ~2hrs.
  • It may be the biggest art museum in the Caribbean, but ... I didn't find it all that impressive. The building is beautiful. We found one of the temporary exhibits significantly more interesting than the permanent collection.
  • They have a large collection of highly valued historic paintings, as well as sculptures and other forms of art. The museum also has a coffee shop where you can find delicious coffee (truly!), home-made muffins, a selection of sandwiches, croissants, hummus toasts, among other tasty things to eat. You can also find a store where you can find many interesting gifts or souvenirs and a restaurant. Overall it is a great experience to just either have coffee with a good book and/or enjoy the majestic collections.
