Feed colorfully feathered parrots and see how birds are hatched and raised at Umgeni River Bird Park, a private aviary built in a landfill and a former quarry site on the banks of the Umgeni River. Established in 1984, the zoo features over 300 bird species in 250 enclosures, including owls, cranes, and vultures. See daily a show in an open-air arena, with colorful hornbills, macaws, kookaburras, and toucans on display. Take pathways to see walk-through aviaries under high cliffs and enjoy a view of 20 m (66 ft) tall natural waterfalls. A great day trip The Bird Park offers a visit that's packed with experiences - whether it's wandering around and looking at the birds or spending time enjoying the daily show. The park has a variety of exotic and local birds on display with information on each of these at each cage that makes it informational as well as educational. There's a daily show that is highly entertaining and educational. The birds on display include an owl, eagle and more. The birds all have their own personalities and it was such a treat to see how the handlers deal with their own quirks. You can buy nectar at the gate that is fed in one of the walk-in aviaries, bringing you up close and personal to the birds. Definitely worth visiting with friends and family

Enjoyed a pleasant visit here this morning with my family. The show was interesting and humorous. There is a great variety of birds from ducks to Owls. You can walk through some of the enclosures which allows you to get really close to them. Bird feed is available at the entrance which is great for the kids to feed the Swans etc. There is a Cafe inside where you can purchase cool drinks, coffee, tea and light meals. The facility is clean and well managed.
