Not too far from the capital, Ito has developed a reputation as a resort town, with a fair portion of its area lying within a national park.
Start off your visit on the 19th (Sun): let little ones run wild at Izu Granpal Park, trek along Jogasaki Coast, then examine the collection at Ikeda museum of 20th century art, and finally get answers to all your questions at Michi-no-Eki Ito Marine Town. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: see the interesting displays at Izu Glass and Craft Museum, then get to know the resident critters at Izu Shaboten Zoo, and then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Omuro.

Tokyo to Ito is an approximately 1.5-hour train ride. You can also drive. Traveling from Tokyo in December, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Ito, with lows of 11°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 20th (Mon) so you can catch the flight to Ise.

Ise

A spiritual center of Shintoism, Ise stands as a traditional city where visitors can see the roots of Japanese culture in a number of well-preserved natural and historic sites.
Family-friendly places like Ise Grand Shrine and Ise Ninja Kingdom will thrill your kids. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Ise: Hotel Shima Spain Mura (in Shima) and Mikimoto Pearl Island (in Toba). There's much more to do: get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Toba Aquarium, don't miss a visit to Meotoiwa Rocks, get to know the fascinating history of Ise Shrine Geku, and see the interesting displays at Okageza.

Fly from Ito to Ise in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. Traveling from Ito in December, expect nights in Ise to be about the same, around 9°C, while days are slightly colder, around 11°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Thu) early enough to go by car to Nagoya.

Known nationally as an industrial heartland, Nagoya boasts a far more cosmopolitan and cultural core than its reputation would lead you to believe.
Kids will enjoy Nagoya Castle and Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology. Explore Nagoya's surroundings by going to Kuwana (Nabana no Sato & Nagashima Spa Land). Takayama

Hidden high up in the Japanese Alps, Takayama remained largely cut off from the rest of Japan for centuries, allowing the local culture to grow in relative isolation.
Bring the kids along to Sanmachi Suji and Hida-Takayama Miyagawa Morning Market. Get out of town with these interesting Takayama side-trips: Ryokufu Resort Hida Nagareha (in Hida) and Shirakawa-mura (Ogimachi Castle Old Site Observatory, The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go Gassho Style Houses, &more).
