Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. Start off your visit on the 22nd (Sat): see the interesting displays at Parque de Bombas, don't miss a visit to Casa Wiechers-Villaronga, then admire the masterpieces at Museo de Arte de Ponce, and finally stroll through La Guancha.

Philadelphia, USA to Ponce is an approximately 13-hour flight. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Atlantic Standard Time (AST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Expect a daytime high around 88°F in July, and nighttime lows around 76°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Sun) to allow time to travel to Culebra.

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Bring the kids along to Flamenco Beach and Zoni Beach. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Tamarindo Beach and Playa Punta Soldado Beach. The adventure continues: step off the mainland to explore Culebrita Island, enjoy the sand and surf at Carlos Rosario Beach, and enjoy the sea views from Culebrita Lighthouse.

Getting from Ponce to Culebra by combination of car and flight takes about 2 hours. Other options: do a combination of taxi and flight. In July, plan for daily highs up to 89°F, and evening lows to 79°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 26th (Wed) so you can travel to Isla de Vieques.

Isla de Vieques

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Kids will enjoy Sun Bay and Blue Beach. You'll get in some beach time at Media Luna Beach and Caracas Beach. There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Vieques National Wildlife Refuge, take a leisurely stroll along Mosquito Pier, and take an in-depth tour of Fortin Conde de Mirasol Museum.

Isla de Vieques is very close to Culebra. In July in Isla de Vieques, expect temperatures between 88°F during the day and 78°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 29th (Sat) to allow time to travel to San Juan.
