Isla de Vieques

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
On the 17th (Thu), take in the waterfront at Mosquito Pier, thentake in the exciting artwork at Serenity Point Yoga & Visionary Arts Space, thenfind your balance on the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, and finally get engrossed in the history at Fortin Conde de Mirasol Museum. On the next day, get great views at Puerto Ferro Lighthouse and then kick back and relax at Caracas Beach.

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Get outdoors at Tamarindo Beach and Zoni Beach. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Carlos Rosario Beach and Brava Beach. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Punta Soldado Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Flamenco Beach, enjoy the sea views from Culebrita Lighthouse, and look for gifts at Zinkowski Art Studio.

Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. Start off your visit on the 23rd (Wed): steep yourself in history at Museum of Puerto Rico Music, get engrossed in the history at Ponce History Museum, thenvisit a coastal fixture at Cardona Island Light, and finally take in the waterfront at La Guancha.

Traveling by flight from Culebra to Ponce takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry, car, and bus; or do a combination of ferry and shuttle. In August in Ponce, expect temperatures between °C during the day and °C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Wed) to allow time to drive to Rincon.

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
Kick off your visit on the 24th (Thu): step off the mainland to explore Desecheo Island NWR, enjoy the sea views from Punta Higuera Light House, and then stop by Tres Puertas Art Gallery & Blue Mermaid Gift Shop.

Known as the "Land of Giants" in honor of its celebrated residents--including poet Julia de Burgos and baseball player Roberto Clemente--Carolina makes a living as both an industrial center and a hub of tourism.
Step out of the city life by going to Icacos Island and Cascada La Mina (La Mina Falls). You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Balneario Luquillo and Pine Grove Beach. Explore Carolina's surroundings by going to Punta Tuna Lighthouse (in Maunabo), Kayaking & Canoeing (in Fajardo) and Luquillo Beach (in Luquillo). The adventure continues: head off-road at Carabali Rainforest Park.
