For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Sun Bay and Caracas Beach. Escape the urban bustle at Blue Beach and Secret Beach. The adventure continues: enjoy the sand and surf at Media Luna Beach, discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, take an in-depth tour of Fortin Conde de Mirasol Museum, and stroll through Green Beach.

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Take a break from the city and head to Flamenco Beach and Carlos Rosario Beach. Kids will enjoy Zoni Beach and Culebra National Wildlife Refuge. And it doesn't end there: tour the pleasant surroundings at Tamarindo Beach, visit a coastal fixture at Culebrita Lighthouse, head off the coast to Culebrita Island, and stop by Zinkowski Art Studio.

Culebra is just a stone's throw from Isla de Vieques. In June, daily temperatures in Culebra can reach 88°F, while at night they dip to 79°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Mon) to allow time to fly to San Juan.

San Juan

Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Pine Grove Beach and Condado Beach. Get outdoors at The El Yunque Rain Forest and Luquillo Beach.
