One of the world's most ancient cities, Athens remains Europe's undisputed historical and cultural capital.
Museum-lovers will appreciate National Archaeological Museum and Acropolis Museum. Visit Parthenon and Temple of Olympian Zeus for their historical value. Step out of Athens with an excursion to Temple of Poseidon in Sounio--about 1h 10 min away. There's much more to do: delve into the distant past at Acropolis of Athens, take in the spiritual surroundings of Temple of Hephaestus, pause for some serene contemplation at Church of Kapnikarea, and take a stroll through Plaka District.

You'll get in some beach time at Mikri Vigla Beach and Agios Prokopios Beach. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Portara and Kastro. Traveling by combination of subway and flight from Athens to Naxos takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and ferry. When traveling from Athens in August, plan for slightly colder days in Naxos, with highs around 33°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 29°C.
