City of Light

Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.
Escape the urban bustle at Lion and Safari Park and Bill Harrop's Original Balloon Safaris. Do some cultural sightseeing at Apartheid Museum and South African National Museum of Military History. Get out of town with these interesting Johannesburg side-trips: Krugersdorp (Coronation Park, 7th Heaven Scuba, &more), Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site (The Cradle of Humankind, Kromdraai Gold Mine, &more) and Pretoria (Kruger House Museum, Sammy Marks House, &more). Spend the 25th (Fri) spotting exotic species with a safari tour. There's much more to do: visit Maboneng Precinct, try your luck at Montecasino, laugh and play at Gold Reef City, and take a stroll through Melville Neighborhood.

Lagos, Nigeria to Johannesburg is an approximately 9.5-hour flight. You can also fly. The time zone changes from West Africa Standard Time (WAT) to South Africa Standard Time (SAST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Expect little chillier temperatures when traveling from Lagos in December; daily highs in Johannesburg reach 33°C and lows reach 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Mon) early enough to travel back home.
