Nouakchott, which means "place of the winds" in Berber language, serves as the capital and largest city of Mauritania, and one of the largest cities in the Sahara.
On the 4th (Mon), take in the spiritual surroundings of Saudi mosque, look for gifts at Galerie Zeinart, then browse the range of quality goods at Marche Turc, and finally take a leisurely stroll along Port de Peche. On your second day here, browse the eclectic array of goods at Marche aux Khaimas, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Plage de Nouakchott, then take a stroll around Centre culturel francais St Exupery, and finally buy something for everyone on your list at Al Khaima Mall.
