Nouakchott, which means "place of the winds" in Berber language, serves as the capital and largest city of Mauritania, and one of the largest cities in the Sahara.Head to Galerie Zeinart and Marche Turcfor plenty of shopping. Koumbi Saleh and Saudi mosque will appeal to history buffs. Spend the 11th (Sun) exploring nature at Banc d'Arguin National Park. There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ibn Abbas Mosque, take a stroll around Centre culturel francais St Exupery, catch a live event at Stade Olympique, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Plage de Nouakchott.
