Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S.
Step off the beaten path and head to Horseback Riding Tours and Kayaking & Canoeing. You'll find plenty of places to visit near San Juan: Icacos Island (in Fajardo), El Yunque National Forest (The El Yunque Rain Forest & Yokahu Observation Tower) and La Cueva del Indio (in Arecibo). There's much more to do: step off the mainland to explore Palomino Island, get engrossed in the history at Cathedral of San Juan Bautista, stroll the grounds of San Juan Cemetery, and don't miss a visit to Fortaleza Street.
