When you arrive in tiny San Simeon, which lies halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, you can see why William Randolph Hearst chose this coastal locale for his famous hilltop castle.
You've now added Hearst Castle to your itinerary. Start off your visit on the 28th (Sun): step into the grandiose world of Hearst Castle, take a leisurely stroll along San Simeon Pier, then do a tasting at Hearst Ranch Winery, then see the interesting displays at Coastal Discovery Center at San Simeon Bay (Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary), and finally enjoy the sand and surf at William Randolph Hearst Memorial Beach. On your second day here, enjoy the sand and surf at Sand Dollar Beach, then immerse yourself in nature at Limekiln State Park, and then get great views at Ragged Point Overlook.
