Little more than a small town at the turn of the 20th century, Dushanbe grew rapidly during the Soviet era and now serves as the national capital and home to nearly 800,000 people.
Get out of town with these interesting Dushanbe side-trips: Nurek Dam (in Nurek) and Hisor Fortress (in Hisor). There's much more to do: walk around Rudaki Park, make a trip to Ismaili Centre, view the masterpieces at NOOR ART GALLERY, and pause for some photo ops at Statue of Ismoil Somoni.

To see maps, more things to do, where to stay, and more tourist information, refer to the Dushanbe trip itinerary builder website.

If you are flying in from Netherlands, the closest major aiport is Qurghonteppa International Airport. In March in Dushanbe, expect temperatures between 20°C during the day and 5°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
