Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Take a break from the city and head to El Yunque Rain Forest and Pine Grove Beach. For shopping fun, head to Plaza Las Americas or Puerto Rico Premium Outlets. You'll find plenty of places to visit near San Juan: Luquillo (Surfing Puerto Rico & Playa Luquillo) and Caribbean Trading Company Store (in Palmer).
