#3 of 27 in Historic Sites in Lviv
Religious Site · Architectural Building
In a quaint neighborhood of the old town, Armenian Virgin Mary's Dormition Church attracts visitors with its tall castle-like tower and picturesque interior spaces. Originally built in 1363, this structure suffered devastating fire damage in 1527. It was restored to its nearly original appearance between 1908 and 1927. Visit colonnade-lined yards and lavish interiors featuring precious icons of St. Gregory and the Virgin Mary, which were brought to the site in the 1600s. Observe the abundantly decorated domes and look for the 18th-century wooden altar. Outside you'll see an Armenian cemetery; some of the graves here date back to the 16th century.
