Cave Mine Must See
Grab a torch and step into Catacombs of Odessa, a complex of tunnels, labyrinths, and caves below the city. Spread throughout three levels, these structures first served as limestone mines. Over time, local criminals made use of the darkness and the site became the subject of fear. Although some of it has been restored for the purpose of tourism, the largest portion has never been mapped. There are about 1,000 possible exits from the site, and the length of all the burrows totals 2,500 km (1,550 mi)--longer than a trip to Paris. Be sure you have a map and plenty of water. Do not go without a guide; many people have gotten lost here, and some were never found. • A very interesting visit, which traces a part of the history of the city. An atypical space worth a visit. Our guide Julia was passionate and exciting. She speaks perfectly English.
