#1 of 10 in Historic Sites in Vinnytsia Oblast
Führerhauptquartier Werwolf was the codename used for one of Adolf Hitler's World War II Eastern Front military headquarters located in a pine forest about 12km north of Vinnytsia, in Ukraine, which was used between 1942 and 1943. It was one of a number of Führer Headquarters throughout Europe, and the most easterly ever used by Hitler in person.NamingThe name is derived from Werwolf, which is German for werewolf. The naming scheme is in accord with other code-names given to Führerhauptquartiere during the Second World War, such as Wolfsschanze. Several were named for Hitler himself, whose nickname was Wolf, an old German form of Adolf.HeadquartersThe complex was located in a pine forest, about 12km north of Vinnytsia in Ukraine, between the villages of Stryzhavka and Kolo-Mikhailovka on the Kiev highway. It was built between December 1941 and June 1942 under top secret conditions. The location may have been influenced by the Nazis' proposed trans-European highway to the Crimean Peninsula, which would have connected with the site. The Wehrmacht had its regional headquarters in Vinnytsia, and the Luftwaffe had a strong presence at their airbase in Kalinovka, about 20 km away.

  • A mystical place with a huge history. Around the rocks, huge boulders-that's all that remains of this object after the explosions at the retreat. Who knows what is buried underground and whether IT is worth unearth IT?... It is possible to resemble-to wander past stones, to climb on the cleared up concrete blocks... The grounds are large. Suitable for those who are keen and interested in the history of the Great War and the person of Adolf...

  • Werewolf rate today is a vast territory with vyrvavshimisja out of the ground with shrapnel-blocks of the bunker. Bunker-building deep underground and very secret, around which was, is and will be a lot of mysteries. He was blown up by retreating, and the surface is visible to only a small part of it. But these lumps of concrete and metal give an understanding of the POWER of this object. Before visiting the better stock up on the map, in order to understand the scope and the size of buildings, or better yet, read the history and memories of eyewitnesses, who managed to visit inside. Bunker abandoned and for a reason. Most likely it holds many secrets, otherwise why do we so carefully for years and all zamurovyvali are inundated with climbing irons and progress.
