Original Muscle Beach, Los Angeles

Admire gymnasts and acrobats showing off their tricks at Original Muscle Beach. Established in the 1930s, the beach first got attention when legendary bodybuilders Joe Gold and Vic Tanny started lifting the weight equipment. Today, the weight equipment is at Venice Beach, but gymnasts and acrobats still come here to train. Bring your camera, but be sure to ask before snapping shots of the athletes in action. • Best swings (in 34 years I've tried a few)! Great place to chill as the beaches go on for days, or can walk up to Santa Monica Pier within a few minutes.
  • Really cool and free equipment to use. I have been here multiple times and I try out a couple of items to play around, but what really makes this place so cool is watching all the other skilled people here doing tricks and what not. The atmosphere is great and every here seems so encouraging of others. Obviously people get a bit annoyed if you’re clueless and hog equipment, but if you act with any respect you will be given it which you don’t see so often in traditional gyms. Would 100% recommend coming here if you are in Los Angeles area!
