Venice Canals Walkway, Los Angeles

Escape the city noise and traffic at the Venice Canals Walkway, part of the Venice Canal Historic District. The canals, built by Abbot Kinney in 1905, were intended to resemble the canals of Venice, Italy. They were drained and renovated into scenic walking paths in 1992. Enjoy a relaxing stroll on the paths and quaint bridges, pausing to admire the charming, architecturally diverse homes along the way. The tranquility of this area is notable, especially in comparison to the nearby Venice Beach Boardwalk. • Does not take a long time to get through, this walk is great if you want to park in a residential neighborhood and not have to pay for parking for the beach. Nice homes and back yards to walk around.....  more »
  • Venice is a quirky, charming delight of a beach town. It was once a bit gritty, but time and the escalation of property values have mellowed the place a bit I suspect. The canals, lined, with homes....  more »

  • This is a must see place when visiting LA / Venice beach area. It's only a short walk from the main beach. There use to be 7 canals which were created to mimic the canals in Venice. Since that time though, some of the canals have been filled in for housing, which only leaves a couple left to be viewed. Great to walk around and snap those tourist pictures. I would recommend to anyone who is in the area.
  • Nice area to walk around and see interesting homes on the canals. A few wooden bridges to walk over the man-made canals - good for people/bird watching and photos. Not much to do other than walk around the canals. The good thing is the canals are walking distance to Venice Beach. Walking areas near the canals are not too wide.
