Winchester Mystery House, San Jose

Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Mysterious Site
The attraction to Winchester Mystery House lies in its architecture and lack of any master building plan, as much as for its ghost stories. The widow of William Wirt Winchester, who built the house, began construction only after her husband died and left her a huge fortune. A medium told her this fortune should be used to build a house for the ghosts of the people who were killed by her husband's famous rifles. The architectural curiosities were added continuously from 1884 to 1922. Take a guided tour to learn all the quirky stories of the haunted rooms. Make a reservation online. • Before buying All Hallow's Eve Lost in the house tour ticket please think twice. This tour is for kids under 8 years old. They promote it as a tour for 13 and up but you will be very disappointed. I.....  more »
  • I wish I had read prior reviews before spending $64.99 + tax & fees for the All Hallow's Eve Lost in The House "performance". Apparently it sucked in 2019 and other years and they have found it...  more »

  • I highly recommend it. It's history you can visit and you can appreciate. It's fascinating to walk through Mrs. Winchester's shoes and what it took to create such a house! The staff in person were really helpful and knowledgeable. I was late to my time slot and they rescheduled me with ease. Getting through by phone won't happen but rest assured they will help you in person. I had a kind (waited for me as i ran from the bathroom just in time!) and humorous tour guide that lightened up the ambiance.
  • This place is awesome. I recommend doing the tour and the more tour. Two different tours, kind of pricey, but so worth it. The first "normal" tour had about 14 people or so. The "and more tour" there were 4 of us. It was a lot more fun and interesting. But I loved seeing most of the house between both tours. The tour guides were awesome and hilarious. So glad we went.
