  • The meadow is right next to the parking area. Much prettier than I expected and an easy hike around.
  • Crescent Meadow is beautiful and a must-see for all visitors. It's a meadow, so wear bug repellent! I had bug spray and still got a handful of bites. There is a parking lot where you can park (use the bear boxes!) and head on into the trail loop. It's an easy trail, so no heavy hiking needed.
  • Crescent Meadow is the last stop of Route 2 shuttle. The loop trail is a beautiful place for an easy and quiet walk. Not many people. Be sure to use bear boxes to store food and eat at designated area.
  • Stop off at Moro rock for breath taking views. Drive under the red wood tunnel and through redwood grooves before arriving at the meadow. 30 minute walk around the meadow parameter amongst the trees but double if you stop for bears. Bears foraging in meadow. Encountered cub foraging by walkway amongst forest. Everything here was within 10 minutes drive but will occupy you for a good morning if not longer.
  • There many better meadows. The road to the meadow is super narrow and stressful and simply, just not worth it so avoid it and spend more time at other locations in sequoia or kings canyon.

Where to stay in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks provide plenty of lodging right inside their boundaries. Kings Canyon operates three lodges and a set of cabins, with two of the lodges and the cabins remaining open throughout the year. Of these, the John Muir Lodge sits closest to the entrance. The parks also offer more than a dozen campgrounds about equally distributed between them, with most operating on a first-come, first-served basis. Campsites fill up quickly on Friday nights in summer, but you should be able to find a place for your tent any other time during the week. Your accommodation options expand if you look along Sierra Road to the west of the parks. Motels, nature resorts, inns, bed and breakfasts, and lodges line the road, which runs alongside the North Fork Kaweah River.
